CHILTERN & SOUTH BUCKS v VALE OF WHITE HORSE
At St. Joseph’s RC Primary School, Chalfont St. Peter
Chiltern dominated the first five minutes and the VALE were struggling to get a touch of the ball and things looked ominous, especially as it was another small narrow pitch. However they began to get into the game before they had a nightmare minute.
In the 7th minute two defenders hesitated and allowed Beaven to seize on the ball just inside the VALE half. He used his pace to outstrip the defenders and lashed a shot past Crowther in the visitors’ goal.
Less than a minute later there was a bad misunderstanding from a VALE goal kick and Beaven again latched on to a misplaced pass and unleashed another powerful cross shot past Crowther from no more that 12 metres.
Crowther did, however, make an excellent full stretch save to prevent Beaven from scoring a hat trick in three minutes.
The VALE gradually reached parity in possession but did not have the cutting edge that the home team had and invariably vital passes were going astray.
In the 17th minute a Sewell free kick found Masters who very skilfully beat a defender but his shot skimmed the crossbar.
Masters was causing the left side of the home defence some problems and again his shot grazed the crossbar.
Minutes before half time Webb got free of his defender and his cross was met by Ormrod whose powerful header was comfortably saved by the home keeper.
Webb still had time to provide Ormrod with another headed chance which this time was headed downwards and the home keeper made an excellent save.
HALF-TIME: CHILTERN & SOUTH BUCKS 2 VALE 0
Chiltern started the second half as if they wanted to repeat the first half and Chedzey had to be alert at a corner in the fourth minute when he made a splendid headed clearance from a cross on the left.
The home team pushed the attack button and Crowther had to be on his toes to make a smart save at the feet of two attackers in the 13th minute.
Farmer and Standbridge were beginning to have a bigger say in the game but they were never given too much time to deliver telling passes.
After 18 minutes the VALE, not for the first time, caused the alarm bells to ring in the home defence and Webb got in a glorious cross that Sykes, at full stretch, missed by a whisker.
The VALE had a half chance three minutes later when a throw in reached Ormrod on the edge of the goal area at a narrow angle but he attempted to control the ball instead of striking it first time.
Blackwell, Brinkley, Allum and Chedzey dominated the Chiltern attack for most of the second half after the initial five minute burst.
In the final minute the VALE had a chance to pull a goal back but Ormrod, having outpaced the defence, unleashed a shot that the keeper pushed round the post at full stretch.
